news fast for non investor: right or wrong?

News fast – the idea of not reading news as 80% or more are bad news (somebody died, some plane crashed, new disease impacting more people etc..), bad news eventually becomes negative energy impacting your subconscious to push yourself to think negatively instead of positively.

I remember reading this in some self help book a while back, I guess I naturally support it as I’ve always been lazy in reading news. The book was probably published in the 911 time frame in US, so naturally, the atmosphere or human’s mind contains a negative feeling, and the book was probably about staying positive.

This vacation I brought it up with my aunt when she mentioned that she missed the newspaper and got to find out what happens during the trip. She doesn’t agree with this idea, as usual I didn’t mean to just enforce it and was waiting for another person’s argument to help me refine my understanding reasoning. Her response was that people should know what happen around them. I thought it was weak as most of the news can’t be applied to one’s daily life, so didn’t accept it. Then there is a second time she brought it up again, and I finally realized what’s wrong.

One thing I missed is that she thinks a person should know what’s happening around him, it’s emotional, it’s a safety feeling. And on top of that, there is also a successful person impression, meaning a successful person should always know what happens around him. There is also the fit-in factor, a topic to be discussed with people around you. So even though there is not much pratical use, there are impacts in social life and self fulfillment. That just meant I need more where clause to my statement probably. :-)  Yet not something that impacts my news reading habit though. :-)
